Indoor Brown Dog Tick Infestations

The Brown Dog Tick is the most persistent tick species in West Palm Beach because it loves the indoors. Unlike other ticks that require moist soil to reproduce, this species thrives in the dry air of an air conditioned home. They often crawl up walls and hide behind crown molding, picture frames, and in furniture crevices. An infestation often starts unnoticed until the population explodes. Treating this requires a meticulous interior crack and crevice approach, as foggers will not reach them inside the walls.

What we look for during inspection:

• Ticks hiding in the cracks of baseboards and door casings
• Activity behind curtains and window treatments
• Ticks tucked into the crevices of upholstered furniture
• Aggregations of ticks near pet bedding or sleeping areas
• Ticks climbing high on walls or ceilings

How we approach treatment

We treat the specific harborage areas where ticks retreat to molt and lay eggs. We use residual products that kill adults on contact and insect growth regulators that prevent the immature stages from developing. We focus on the cracks and crevices of the structure rather than broad surface spraying. We also provide guidance on washing pet bedding and vacuuming to physically remove eggs.

Outdoor Yard and Perimeter Control

For most other species, the yard is the battlefield. Ticks do not jump or fly; they climb tall grass or shrubs and extend their legs, waiting to grab onto a passing host.
